Stem Cells may be the Secret to Reversing Aging

There has been plenty of research taking place at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. Scientists there have discovered information that states the hands of time can be reversed thanks to the use of stem cells from adults. Their research is also conclusive with the findings of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Both show that human adult stem cells can result in damaged tissues being rejuvenated.

Such research is really exciting because it could help develop additional medical treatments that can help individuals with problems as they get older. There are health risks for the elderly that involved tissue damage, and this type of treatment may be able to reverse them.

In the journal called Cell Cycle, there is a study published about the various molecules and processes that make it possible for adult stem cells to result in the rejuvenation and healing of damaged tissue. Many experts believe it is very possible that this will result in them finally finding a cure for various types of diseases that plague the elderly.

There is a hypothesis that states living organisms are as old as the tissue of it. This is where the adult stem cells come into the picture. By keeping the adult stem cells young, the cells can be used to repair various types of tissues. There is hope that these adult stem cells could help with repairing the damages to the tissue around the heart after someone has suffered from a heart attack.

There are other possible health problems that could be repaired through these adult stem cells. They include wounds that linger and they would now be healing, a cure for metabolic syndromes, patients with Type 1 diabetes may be able to create insulin naturally, and there could be a cure for arthritis. Bones can be regenerated too which would end osteoporosis.

In a normal body, the adult stem cells will be damaged due to the age of the person. Then the body won’t be able to replace that tissue that has been damaged or any diseases that they have. The attempt to change such methods allows the adult stem cells to remain very young though. This is what would reverse the aging, take care of damaged tissue, and reduce the effects of serious illness.

According to Victoria Lunyak, who is an Associate Professor at the Buck Institute for Research, the process of reversing the aging process with adult stems cells has been successfully accomplished. This is due to the use of non protein coding RNA that comes from the genomic regions.

These findings indicate that the cells of the body will have shorter caps where the ends of the chromosomes are. These are called Telomeres. With adult stem cells, those Telomers are still there in the modifications. It is therefore believed that when a person loses the Telomeres, that is when the aging occurs and when damages to the tissue will happen.

When a cell gets older, the Telomeres will get shorter, such as when you have a fuse that gets shorter the longer it burns. With adult stem cells, those fuses can still be there. The hypothesis is that the DNA damage of the genome for adult stem cells is going to appear very different from those that are age related due to damages that occur in regular body cells.
